Director's Greeting

yada01The necessity of product development and sales planning based on data analysis is now recognized by many companies. To date, we have used data mining to analyze massive quantities of data of aggregated purchase histories and customer attributes, and furthermore applied this to theory and practice to contribute to the creation of new needs and sales opportunities in business. Moving forward, we will dramatically expand data mining technologies to other fields, further solidify industry-academic links, and accelerate experimental studies with actual data.

In continuation to the previous project, we are working on the Formation of a Comprehensive Research Center Aimed at Deepening of Data Science in Business, a project adopted by the MEXT-Supported Program for the Strategic Research Foundation at Private Universities (2014-2018). With this project, we are aiming to build a world-class integrated research center that applies various data science technologies in diverse business fields, and realizes the data science process of basic technology/application development, consumer trend model development, and practical verification.

In order to produce accurate and rapid innovation in response to society’s needs, we will implement a feedback loop between theory and practice by building a collaborative research system for industry-academic cooperation in various specialist fields. Specifically, we will contribute to efficient resource allocation for numerous businesses by deriving new consumer trend models in the field of consumer goods distribution and building multidimensional and time-series purchase behavior models.

We will proactively return to society the research results resulting from enhanced data science as a front runner in applied marketing domain of data science. I would like to request your ongoing understanding and support for the Data Science Laboratory.
